My older (c2004) series 88 Price Pfister shower control started leaking and I confirmed with Pfister that the cartridge (pn 974-0230) needed to repair it is no longer available. They advised that I obtain cartridge pn 974-0420 but that “the trim will need to be updated to any current single-handle Pfister trim”. This looked similar in style to my original unit so I ordered it. This is a nice solid unit and it fits and functions well. The prior unit had water volume control in addition to temp control but I’m told this feature has been phased out due to safety concerns with scalding, so this unit only has temp control. There were no instructions included with the unit but given my knowledge of the earlier unit I was able to figure out how to install it. Installation is not the same but it is similar.

Solid components (not plastic). Installs in less than 5 minutes. Remember to “unscrew” old valve and not try to pull/pry off. Replacing (4) 20 year old valves with these – wife loves the modernization and upgrade.

Had to do an emergency replacement as the previous trim screw had fused to the stem and had to be ground off, including some of the actual trim. This kit worked perfecty for the original shower cartridge from 26 years ago when we moved into the house and took 5 minutes to install. Huge relief to get the shower back in opporation.
